Mental Health courses go live!
Medics 4 Rare Diseases (M4RD) have launched a new range of online courses called ‘Mental Health and Rare Disease’.
The course consists of 8 interactive lessons; each focuses on a different topic related to the challenges that living with a rare disease poses to a person’s mental health. Each week a new lesson will become available. This course forms part of M4RD learning platform and their existing ‘Rare Disease 101’ course.
Lesson one is an ‘Introduction to Mental Health and Rare Disease’. Access will be freely available to those who have completed ‘Rare Diseases 101’, and is available here . Those who complete the module will receive a certificate for their learning record.
In our experience, people living with rare conditions which are often complex in their nature, can take many years to actually reach a diagnosis, leaving the individual and their families without the personalised support and guidance that is needed. This all has an impact on the person’s health, wellbeing and mental health.
Medics 4 Rare Diseases have collaborated with the Community Interest Company, Rare Minds to offer these online mental health courses to try and offer practical tips on how to better communicate about mental health, with patients and carers. It also includes steps that medics can take to maintain their own mental health whilst supporting the mental health of others.
