Dr Peter Corry
After initial medical training in Northern Ireland, I came to Bradford as Consultant Community Paediatrician in 1986. I worked in the Child Development Centre at St Luke’s Hospital, mainly in the care of children with disabling conditions. My colleagues and I found increased numbers of (usually rare) genetic illnesses among children of Pakistani origin. This led to us joining colleagues from the Yorkshire Genetics Service in research into the underlying causes. As well as developing medical knowledge, I am interested in improving the basic understanding of genetics for affected families and for the general public.
From 2008 until 2015 I was on the management committee of Rare Disease UK. Now retired I would like to see more professional and research links between the UK and people in the countries of origin for our diverse population.
